The Ather is lighter than the Okinawa praise , but at double the price , it seems to be running short on the value for money parameter. However , it does have a lot of plus points like the 7 inch display and a lithium ion battery which charges much faster than the VRLA of the Okinawa praise.
The Hero nyx e5 seems to be very far behind on the range per charge and top speed comparison vs the Ather 450-but it is priced very attractively.
The Okinawa Praise has only one shortcoming , it's VRLA battery , and therefore its overall weight. With the top speed of 75 kmph it almost matches the Ather 450 and is way better than the Hero nyx e5 at 45 kmph. The range per charge of the Okinawa praise at 150 km is double that of the Ather 450 and triple that of the Hero nyx e5.
Th most attractive part about the Okinawa praise with such strong numbers on range per charge and top speed is its low price of rs.68,000. The Okinawa praise looks much better than the other two and is our choice of the best electric scooter in India. The Okinawa praise has been launched with a removable lithium ion battery in October 2018 at a price of around Rs.75,000- and although it has a lower range and top speed , it will give tough competition to all other scooters.
The Hero nyx e5 at Rs.51,000 is the cheapest of the 3 electric scooters being compared.It has a Lithium ion battery and it weighs only 77 kgs , so it is certainly easy to handle. The range and top speed is not what some of us would desire. Although there will be a large number of people who might still go for it.
The One TATA strategy evolving in the board room of TATA motors is definitely a step in the right direction. They have a huge reservoir of brains that will come up with excellent ideas and a team that will execute those ideas to near perfection.
The problems with selling electric cars that they are planning to tackle are
1. The infrastructure for recharging is not in place-TATA real estate division can take care of that.
2. Manufacturing the car is TATA motors' speciality
3.Apps and other digital integration platforms are a cynch for TCS
The bigger issues that have not been discussed are :
1.How do you sell an electric car which is smaller in size than a conventional ICE car -which the customer perceives as less value for money?
2.An extension to this is , how do you do this in the TATA brand name, which is known to deliver budget category products which are generally serving the bottom of the pyramid in most car segments.
The first issue is something that all car manufacturers will face.
The second point is something which some of the manufacturers would be able to circumvent since they are in a position to charge a premium which customers are willing to pay for the brand. A person buying a Honda or an Audi is not averse to paying more, but this is a luxury that TATA car customers may not be willing to afford.
A TATA customer is always looking for extra value so how does one give them this EXTRA VALUE in this situation.
The advantage that TATAs have in this scenario is that people have faith in the TATA group - therefore the following suggestion may work.
Give each TATA car customer an option to receive TATA motors equity of some value along with the car purchased by them.
The result will be - an offer that most car companies cannot match. Imagine getting 50 shares of TATA motors with a Tiago and 100 shares of TATA motors with a HEXA-simply like people are getting "Free Insurance" ?
This will work advantageously on three fronts.
-The company gets capital infusion, which can be used sensibly for further progress.
-The company will have a stake holders who are using the company's products.
-The TATA car customers will have their skin in the game-and this wil ensure more participation by them in creating a scenario to help the company in many ways-great net promoters always increase sales, and a person with his skin in the game will always deliver more.
TATA motors may not have a reputation like Mercedes as far as cars go , but , as a group the name TATA enjoys more faith than Mercedes in India-leverage that.
There will be a lot of legal loopholes to do this - but that is a job for the lawyers to handle.

Will there be enough Lithium for electric cars in India?
The total world production of lithium is by some estimates is 50,000 tons in the year 2017.
An electric car battery – the economical one ,(Not the TESLA which takes around 60 kg of lithium) takes in around 12 kgs of lithium.
So there is at present lithium available every year for slightly over 4 million cars.
The total number of cars sold across the world is given below:
China : 20,000,000
Europe : 13,000,000
Japan : 3,500,000
That is a total of more than 50 million cars every year.
Going by current estimates of Lithium production there is a scope for converting less than 8 % of the car population to electric cars.
This 8% is without considering that the lithium being mined is to be used for some other purposes also, and neither are we considering the fact that a large quantum of 2 wheelers electric scooters and ebikes would also require lithium batteries.
The reality in the future would be that the quantity of lithium required by 2 wheelers may exceed the quantity of lithium required by cars- since 2 wheelers sell much more than cars.
A lot of reports cite numbers predicting that 15% to 25 % of all car sales will be electric by the year 2025.
So we will need to double the lithium mining capacities at the least to service this requirement comfortably.
Companies like TESLA and countries like China are already racing towards this objective , but no one seems to have got a tight grasp on the situation.
Japanese companies are also not sure about what to do , since firstly they do not have the economic muscle of the Chinese companies backed by their government , and they do not have a clear road map like TESLA’s Elon Musk seems to have- he is taking over a stake in one of the largest lithium producers in Chile.
The scenario in India is still not being envisioned or discussed publicly, but it seems likely that there won’t be much lithium left on the table by the time we reach the party.
So what happens to our plans of driving electric cars in 2030 ?
We may be saved by Japan which is working towards develop a technology that is commercially viable , like hydrogen fuel cells and that they may be willing to share it or sell it to us.
We would therefore probably jump the lithium era , like we jumped the desktop era of computers and latched onto mobile phones in a big way- there’s hope for us , as always.
Like they say – Bhagwan ke ghar mein der hai andher nahin- which loosely translates to there is always light at the end of a dark tunnel.
1.INDIAN GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES THAT NO LICENSES ARE REQUIRED FOR SETTING UP EV CHARGING STATIONS: The power ministry has provided a clarification that since there is conversion of electric energy into chemical energy at the time when a battery is charged , there is no violation of the current laws pertaining to distribution , transmission or trading of electricity. So this paves the way for people interested in setting up electric vehicle EV charging stations,without worrying about the factors pertaining to licensing under the Electricity Act. Though the Government will be releasing more guidelines about technical specifications of EV charging stations in the future - a major hurdle is overcome by this announcement.

Toyota is at the crux of developing a battery in a solid state for electric cars.
The product has been developed in prototype stages and is undergoing tests for further development. In case Toyota is able to bring it to a level of commercial development this would be a significant break through since this would mean a drastic difference in the number of hours taken to charge the batteries of electric cars today.

16th August 2017Under GST,Electric cars are taxed at the low rate of 12 %, in comparison to 43% for more polluting sport utility vehicles. The Hybrid cars in India also attract a levy of 43% -GST of 28% and 15% cess, more than that on smaller petrol cars and diesel cars.
14th August 2017 The Indian government with one stroke has put the plans of car manufacturers in India into a rethink mode. The GST on Hybrid cars stands at 43% versus only 12 % on electric cars.
